My comments
The greatest centre-half and captain Arsenal have ever had. His eager to win
made him the most successful Arsenal captain of all time, leading his team to
four league titles (1989, 1991, 1998 and 2002), three FA Cups (1993, 1998 and 2002),
two League Cups (1987 and 1993) and one European Cup-Winners Cup in 1994.
Tony Adams made his first team debut against Sunderland in November 1983, and
four years later he became the club's youngest captain ever at the age of 21.
Adams was really strong in the air, and a typical scenario at corner kicks was:
Steve Bould flicked the ball
with his head at the near post, with Adams arriving at the far post to head the
ball into the back of the net. His most memorable goal, however, was not a
header. When Arsenal secured the league title in May 1998 by beating Everton
4–0 at Highbury, we saw another example of the Bould–Adams partnership.
Bould played a through-ball putting Adams one-on-one with the Everton keeper and
the Arsenal number 6 made no mistake.
