My comments
Former Arsenal manager Bruce Rioch didn't have much success at Highbury, but one mustn't
forget that he was responsible for bringing Dutch superstar Dennis Bergkamp to Arsenal
from Italian giants Inter in the summer of 1995. The Italian style of play didn't suit
Bergkamp, but at Highbury the fans (myself included) regard him as one of the greatest
players ever to have wore the red-and-white shirt. What can I say – Bergkamp is
simply a genius! His amazing ball control, vision and understanding of the game makes him
one of the world's greatest players of the last decade. Dennis may not score as many goals
as before, but instead he delivers the passes for other players to score, most notably
during the 2001/02 double-winning season where he was the master behind several of Freddie
Ljungberg's goals. Despite being more of a passer than a scorer, Dennis has managed to
score more than 100 goals in 300 games for Arsenal!
