My comments
“Supermac” was an extremly fast and strong centre-forward who
had two good seasons at Arsenal (Division 1 topscorer in 1977 for example),
before injury prevented him from making any impact during the 1978/79 season.
In the summer of 1979, he went to Sweden to play a few games for Djurgården.
Before his Arsenal days, Macdonald scored his goals for Newcastle, and managed
to score a hat-trick on his home debut for the Magpies against Liverpool. He is
also remembered for scoring all five goals as England beat Cyprus 5–0
in a European Championship qualifying game in 1975.
