Interestingly, Ian, my brother was signed as a left winger before the manager
George Swindon tried him out in goals, he was to be released
after his apprecitceship year. Ian tells me his first game in goal was a closed door affair against England prior
to a Home International campaign. He then "starred" in Arsenals visit to Gothenberg.
Billy Wright didn't see eye to eye with him and was released on
the basis "he was too heavy". Ian lives outside Hull. Ian's brother-in-law was
Jack McClelland also an Arsenal goalie at the time! My son Adam
is a Gunners fan along with Clyde FC.
