My comments
Joe Powell was the first player to captain Arsenal in a Football League match.
He was the captain when Arsenal played their first ever league match against
Newcastle on 2nd September 1893. Unfortunately Joe broke his arm in a match in
1896 and died of blood poisoning a few days later.
