Season 2001/02
The third Double
Arsenal won the double for the third time in their history after a fantastic finish
to the season where Dennis Bergkamp found Freddie Ljungberg time after time when the
Swedish midfielder made his diagonal runs towards the opposing goal. Thanks to their
efforts, Freddie finished the season as Arsenal's second best goalscorer together with
Sylvain Wiltord. Thierry Henry became top goalscorer not only at Arsenal but in the
entire Premiership with his 24 goals (a total of 32 goals in all competitions).
Another player who had an amazing season was French winger Robert Pires who unfortunately
missed the latter stages of the season because of an injury. Despite this, he managed
to score a total of 13 goals, helping Arsenal to their second double under the reign of
Arsène Wenger.
